Tours of Luxor's Antiquities
Named by the Greek poet Homer as "Thebes of the Thousand Gates," Luxor was the center of power for almost 1,500 years. The name "Luxor" means "the palaces" in Arabic and reflects the city's rich array of magnificent temples and tombs. During the 7th century B.C., the Assyrians invaded Egypt and left the city of Thebes in ruin. Happily, today's "invaders" are visitors who arrive in Luxor to view the remnants of a

truly magnificent civilization.

Within the confines of Luxor are some of the grandest monuments of the ancient world. On the East Bank are the splendid Temples of Luxor and Karnak as well as the Luxor Museum, which houses an impressive collection of local antiquities.

All tours can be arranged through our tour desk, upon arrival at the hotel.

An overwhelming display of complex gateways, ruined temples, ancient chapels, gigantic columns and majestic obelisks, make the Luxor an extraordinary tribute to the ancient Egyptians. On the West Bank are the Valley of Kings and Valley of Queens, both profusions of historic and artistic wealth, where the Temples of Hatchepshut and Ramses II stand in magnificent contrast to the unmarked tombs of the pharaohs

 hidden underground.
 The East Bank
This unforgettable excursion begins with a drive to the Luxor Temple which was built by two great pharaohs - Amenhotep III and Ramses II. After touring the temple, you will travel along an avenue of ram-headed Sphinxes, extending for about 2 miles, which links the Luxor Temple with the Karnak Temple, the main center of worship in ancient Egypt. No site in the world makes a more overwhelming and lasting impression than this "Temple of all Temples."

Karnak Sound & Light Show
The history and drama of the temple of Karnak are presented every evening in an unforgettable sound and light show at the huge complex of Karnak. Tickets are available though the Concierge and may be purchased upon arrival at the hotel.

The West Bank
Don't miss the Valley of the Kings and Queens and Temple of Hatchepsut located on the West Bank of the Nile. Begin your journey by crossing the Nile from Luxor and visiting the Valley of the Kings, which includes the tombs of the Theban rulers, Seti I and Tut Ankh Amun. Next, tour the mortuary Temple of Hatchepsut, the only woman pharaoh to rule ancient Egypt. You will also want to visit the Valley of the Queens and Tombs of the Nobles, which are also on the West Bank. Also included in this excursion is a visit to the mortuary Temple of Medinet Habu, erected by and for Ramses II.
